The pool water circulates through the same closed loop several times a day for cleaning and purification. This constant movement prevents stagnation and avoids contamination by algae and bacteria. The pump is what drives the water movement, creating a current that allows the water to enter the skimmers before entering the filtration circuit and returning to the pool through the return jets.

The central component of the filtration system, the filter contains a filter medium (which can be sand, glass, textiles, or diatomaceous earth, depending on the filter type). As the water is filtered, dirt particles are trapped in this filter bed before the water is returned to the pool.
